Most of these poems were written by the English poet Simon Curtis from a time spent in Sydney in 1989. They are traditional in form, even a little 'Augustan' in spirit. They evoke, among other subjects, the suburb of Coogee, the painters John Glover and Tom Roberts, Captain Cook, cricket and the outback. In this volume humorous verse is balanced by more serious reflection.
